How do I fix a water pump leak on my Dodge Ram?

The Dodge Ram has a terrible but well deserved reputation for developing leaks at the water pump. The best option is to replace the water pump. The water pump on this truck is fairly easy to get to without even lifting the vehicle off the ground. Dont buy a used replacement because it may have cracks as well.

first you need to see if the pump is leaking or if its a gasket behind the pump. if water is coming from the weep hole in the pump or any other area of the pump remove it and replace the pump. if its a gasket remove the pumpgasket. replace

When your water pump leaks it is due to the seal erroding. You can just replace the seal but it is not recommended to do so. When you buy the waterpump it will come with a new gasket/seal. And it is usual to replace the cambelt etc at the same time.

Well first make sure the pump itself is not the problem. If so get a new one. Buy a new gasket set also. Then drain your coolant down and remove all accessories in front of the pump and then remove the pump and clean off the old gasket. Install the pump and torque to specified amount then revere the process.

Depending on if the leak is from the gasket or pump itself. Either way, the pump will have to be removed. If the pump is inexpensive, replace it anyway.

If you have a leak at the water pump then it is probably just the gaskets. You will need to remove the water pump and install a new set. Be sure to install the exactly as the directions state.

If the leak comes out from the gasket you need to replace the gasket. If the leak comes out of the shaft seal then you must replace the water pump.

You will need to take it in and have it checked. Or get a manual at the auto parts store with the make and model of your car. It will tell you how to fix it.
