Question by  Orelia (12)

How many miles is a Dodge 2.7 water pump good for?

My Dodge has only 60,000 miles on it, and they are saying I need a new water pump.

You may need a new water pump, water pumps have an inestimably life and may give out before other crucial engine components. Research junk yards or salvage yards for used parts as they will be a cheap alternative to new OEM parts. Estimating the life of a water pump is difficult as it is not a "wear" item.

Any water pump should be checked approximately every 35,000 miles that you drive your vehicle. At 60,000 miles it may well be ready to have the pump replaced. Check with your mechanic and ensure it is indeed the pump.

Usually water pumps need to be replaced about every 50,000 miles. They will build up gunk inside the water pump and create leaks.

The water pump can fail at 60,000 miles. If you notice a coolant leak near the water pump or if the engine is running hot it probably needs replaced.

I would say that the pump should last anywhere from sixty to seventy-five thousand miles. If I were you I would think about changing it since they are saying to.
