How do I find out if somebody is being deported? Is there somewhere I can call?

The best solution is to call your friend's country's consulate or ambassy located in the country where he got picked up. As they are supposed to protect and help their own citizens in this foreign country, they will tell you if your friend got deported or will do their best to know what has happened to him.

All deportations are managed by the Home Office in the UK and you should contact them directly. They will put you through to the right department to find out details. The Home Office is based in London.
