WIth an axe. You can cut it down quite low and then use a chain wrapped around the trunk and a truck to pull the stump out of the ground if that is what you are wanting to do

A chainsaw can do the trick since a birch tree is like any tree in that sense, though its roots should be removed and its stump ground down, and a further word of advice is to afterward look around and make sure that there are no baby trees growing, and if there are you may need to use herbicide.

You have to start by cutting down some of the bigger branches then you have to start cutting at the base.

Depending on the size, height, and circumference of the tree you may need and chainsaw and a shovel. After it is sawed down most birch trees will put up suckers.

If your tree is not so tagged then you can get rid of the tree or else you have to get permission from your 'Tree man'(ask in local council office). If your tree is six meters high then you can cut it. If it is not an prevention area then it you can cut it of without any conditions
