Cats can die from various diseases (for example, cancer (such as feline leukemia), infections (such as FIV, feline plague)), or trauma (for example, getting run over by a car, falling out of a windows or trees, or losing fights with cats, dogs, or other animals), or old age (natural causes).

Cats die just like any other animal. They might be involved in a traffic accident, they might fall, they could drown, or they could even have a terminal disease. These are just a few examples, but you can tell your kids that the cat simply "ran away".

If we are lucky, our good friends die of old age. Often cats die from kidney failure, most prevalent in males, and tied to feed and litter. Most commonly, sadly, cats die from cars, illness, poisoning or predators cause by being allowed to run outside. Indoor spayed/neutered cats live longest.

Cats can die in a multitude of ways. Some die from sickness or disease, some get hit by cars or killed by other animals. In ideal circumstances cats die from old age.
