First off, put on rubber or plastic gloves, then check for a tag to contact the owners. If there is no contact information, place the carcass into a plastic bag, and place into an outdoor garbage recepticle with a tight fitting lid. If the cat had any wounds you may want to contact local animal control.

Try calling animal control for your area; they'll be able to tell you what to do. If you live in a rural area, you could probably just take the corpse to a secluded spot and bury it.

Call the animal control officer in your city or town. (If you can't locate a phone number, call the local police deparment, county sheriff or humane shelter for information. ) Animal control will typically remove dead animals for disposal.

If **YOUR** pet is definitely dead, it could be cremated or buried deeply in your yard. Otherwise, covering the body with a black plastic bag for now, and contact your local animal control or human society (preferably); or call the local health dept. or local NON-emergency police. You should get advice/help for sanitary removal and disposal of the cat's body.
