Aaliyah died in a small plane crash in the Bahamas, along with eight other people. She was only 22 years old when she died. The pilot of the plane was later found to be flying without a license and Aaliyah's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit which was settled out of court.

She was killed in an airplane crash, after they had completed the music video "Rock the boat". The crew decided to load all their equipment into the plane, against the advice of baggage handlers, and it was too much for the plane to support. She was twenty-two.

Aaliyah died on August 25, 2001 due to a plane crash. She and her crew were returning to the United States from the Bahama's where there were filming a music video. Aaliyah was at the young age of 22 when she passed away. Several of her crew member were killed in the crash as well.
