Most slow let-down is caused by stress. Some can be caused by other harmful factors such as smoking, excessive caffeine, or alcohol. The best way to improve let-down is to develop relaxing nursing routines (enjoy some tea or brief meditation right before; cuddle, stroke, and coo at your baby while nursing, etc. ).

Tenseness can interfere with milk flow. Relax, use a warm compress, and make sure you are comfortable. The baby's sucking will stimulate letdown, so let your baby take his time.

Drink a lot of water. The more hydrated you are the better. You can also put warm clothes on your breasts to help letdown prior to feeding.

Applying heat, such as using a warm compress or taking a warm shower can speed up the letdown process. If the baby is impatient with the letdown, it may help to pump for a few minutes before the baby is expected to be hungry, just until the milk begins to flow.
