How can I tell what color hair our kids will have?

If my husband has red hair, and my hair is blonde, what color hair will our kids have?

Both red hair and blonde hair are recessive traits. Your children will have light hair (either blonde or red depending on how the genes sort during conception). They will not have dark hair, which is a dominant trait.

That is actually fairly difficult to predict because there are many genes involved in the determination of characteristics like hair color, so there are many possible outcomes. Usually, darker colors are dominant, but it's not always the case. The children might even have a reddish-blonde color which is in between the two of you.

Hair color is based upon genes. Most likely the more dominant color will prevail. Thus the kids will most likely have blond hair, or strawberry blond.

There is no sure way of telling what color hair your child will have. Your child can actually come out with hair color from a family member up to two generations back. Red, however, is a recessive haircolor. So, chances are you will lean towards blonde.
