How can I tell if I have a dying tooth?

If your gums are receding or you lost a crown or filling it can cause your nerves to die under your tooth. You will know because your teeth or tooth will be very sensitive to cold and may hurt when your chewing something. You may even get little sores on your gums around that area.

The first sign of a dying tooth is discoloration, usually towards a grey color. The dentist can do an x-ray to look for bone loss and can also do sensitivity testing to the tooth. If there is loss of sensation or no feeling altogether the tooth is dying or dead.

Your tooth will begin to feel sensitive to cold or hot foods and drinks. The next stage is constant pain. This happens when your tooth starts to become infected. If you can make it through that horrible pain then the tooth will stop hurting and fall out. You would definately be wanting to make a dentist appointment before then.

It will likely *hurt* and perhaps your dentist can save the tooth by performing a root canal. Another sign is if the tooth changes color.

Normally if a tooth is in the process of dying, you will feel pain. Often the pain is associated with temperature changes, for example hot or cold drinks or food. The process of chewing is painful. See your Dentist for an xray to be certain.

Typically there is a fine line, time wise, between a live tooth and a dead tooth. The pain will disappear completely once the tooth has fully died.

if your tooth starts to hurt the first thing as soon as you can see you doctor because your tooth could easyly get a infection in it.And if you could you should put orajel on it. It will amke you tooth and gum go num. And you will feel lesspain
