You can tell a pineapple is ripe when the color is a deep golden brown and it is firm but gives a bit when you press a finger into it. You don't want it too soft. Also smells very sewwt.

Firstly, the skin should smell strongly of ripe pineapple. If still unsure, press gently against the lower part of the fruit, about an inch above the base. You should be able to feel the flesh give slightly if the pineapple is ripe.

Its all in the smell and appearance. It should have a nice sweet aroma. The outside should be bright with no dark, soft spots. The leaves shouldn't be wilted and stay on the fruit when you tug.

Gently tug on the leaves at the top. If they pull out fairly easily, then the fruit is ripe. If they are stubborn, then the fruit is not yet ripe. Wait a day or so and try the leaf test again.
