3/4 inch plywood would easily support the weight of many pets such as dogs. If short material is available then a stair type ramp can be made. Example of a simple ramp could be 16" to 24" sheet of 3/4 plywood 6' to 8'feet long. Carpet installed to top side and 1x material for trim to sides of ramp.

Just like you would make a human ramp or much smaller. He does not need to be very sturdy unless you pet is very large. You can buy ramps over the internet, that are foldable and can go in the trunk of your vehicle. These would be the same ramps that they use to move wheelchairs.

Measure from the floor to where the ramp will end. Get 3 2x4 and use two for the sides and one for the op and bottom to hold the side together. Measure the width and cut a sheet of plywood. Nail to the sides and ends and carpet the sheet.
