Water temperature plays a role in the growth of algae in a swimming pool. Monitor the water temperature to tell learn when algae starts to grow. Then you can aerate the water before it reaches that temperature to cool it down. You can also use a chemical that elimates the phosphates from the water. Algae needs the phosphates to survive.

There are many different types of chemicals you can buy to pour into your pool that will help control the algae. You can usually find this at your local pool store, or at some general stores such as walmart. Once you poor some in, walk around with a brush and scrub the algae off the side.

You will have to use chemicals to get rid of it. These chemicals are different from the regular chlorine that you use in your pool. You can get them from any pool supply store or even Wal-Mart. You will need to change your pump filter before adding the chemicals and run the pool pump for several days thereafter.
