to check your sensor u can get a diagnostic test through a car shop and it will tell u any thing thats wrong.

Not sure what universal sensor you're talking about, but I think you mean universal oxygen sensor. In newer cars, the check engine light will turn on. Take the car to a parts store and see if they will read the code for you.

The only way to determine if your sensor is going bad is to check for any codes. If your service engine light isn't on there may be ghost codes.
