How can I build a web forum?

The best way to start is with the many types of open-source forum software that is available. phpbb is probably the most common free one, but there are better ones that cost money. Just install that on a shared host, and you can get started pretty easily.

I agree with your advice, but the real hard part will be to start building a community. You will have to somehow engage people and draw them to your site. Great original content is a good start, maybe getting members of an existing community to get the conversations started. add a comment

Well, to build a web forum you need to have html skills. But if you want one you can get it made for yourself. Go to and they can provide you with a pre-existing forum.

Many websites allow you to host forums for free with ads, or without ads for a small price. Getting a lot of your friends to join and promoting it well will help make it more popular.

You should use PHP BB3. You can get it by googling the term. You can download it and install it on a Linux server. Then you have to configure it. That's it.
