How can I build a cat tree?

Use lumber, carpet and PVC pipe. Use the lumber to make square landings for them to lay on and cover it with the carpet so that they can scratch on it. Use the PVC pipes to connect the different landings together and so that they are different sizes and heights.

I think that is just a GREAT idea, particulary in an apartment. Keeping your cat indoors is a very caring choice, but you want them to play too. I've looked into this, and there are many plans and diagrams online. I think if you google your idea, you'll find some easy to follow ideas to build great climbing toys.

You don't build cat trees. You grow them. A cat tree has to be grown by cats. So only cats can make these trees. They do it by claiming a tree as their own and living there.

You will need some heavy duty cardboard tubing that you can wrap in carpet scraps or some other material along with particle board. Wood glue, nails, and even staples are helpful. Cut particle board into squares and you can even assemble small boxes the cat can hide in and cover with carpet. Glue or nail the tubing to boards.

Of course first you would have to get one carpet tube, plywood or particle board, fake fur, a mat and some rope.

The plans can be gotten from online. The materials are fairly cheap. You could just get some boards and carpeting and use your imagination.
