You must often come to the church and show interest in becoming part of the congregation. They will then begin to accept you in.

Once you have gone through training it is usually pretty easy to find a job. Your son might have to start in a smaller town and move up later.

United Methodist pastors first start by going to a religious school. After going to a religious school, you can start out being a youth minister or anything below a pastor. If you want to, you could also become an assistant to a pastor. If you think you are ready to be a pastor, the deacons will then decide.

Basically your son will need to complete a course of religious training, typically at a religious university. Once he has the required background education he typically will need to find employment as a lesser minister such as a child or youth minister. Finally, he will apply to his chosen churches.

Every June, United Methodist Churches in each state have an annual conference. There, each church congregation submits to the Bishop a request to keep or replace their current pastor.

As I understand it, the Bishop makes the decision on who will be your pastor and the DS tells the church. Our church had no choice in the matter.  add a comment

Most pastors start out as assistant pastors for several years. When they are ready the deacons and elders will make the selection. Sometimes the parishioners get a vote also.

The United Methodist Church seeks those who are called, not just seeking a stable profession. They will look for religious orthodoxy as well as a caring nature.
