Scale is always a possible problem. This is no reason to not grow Euonymus. Scale can easily be treated with a neem oil product or a systemic insecticide.

My opinion is that Emerald 'n Gold Euonymus and also all other euonymus shrubs are never a good choice. They are very prone to getting many diseases and insect damage.

Low growing shrubbery, this plant works well as a ground cover, among other things. Scale can be a problem, as can aphids, mildew, leaf spot, crown gall, and anthracnose. Products are available for these problems. Planted on a slope or other area where erosion is a problem, it can help provide erosion control. Grows well in sunny or shady areas.

The important thing to decide is this: will it grow in your region. There are some plants which grow easily everywhere, while others simply peter out after a season or two. If you like the way it looks, and it grows well in your region, then it's just a matter of putting it in the right place!
