Crown Gall is one disease. It is caused by a soil-inhabiting bacterium. Large rounded galls can appear on stems and roots of the plant and cause slowed growth. Branches may die and leaves may turn yellow. Another problem is Cercospora leaf spot which are brown spots that form on leaves. This can cause tiny black fruiting bodies on the leaves.

Anthracnose is an infection caused by a fungus. This may cause severe defoliation. Leaf spots are caused by fungi or bacteria. Brown and black spots appear on the leaves. Powdery mildew is a white or gray fungus that will turn the leaves yellow or brown, make it curl up and eventually drop off.

Powdery mildew affects these plants when there is not enough light or air. Fruit will be wrinkled or drop early. Leaves eventually turn brown and fall. Watering from below so it doesn't touch the plant will help with this problem. Leaf spots is another disease these plants get.
