Question by  GauthamM (15)

Does the Honda Element have a timing belt or chain?

I'd like to know whether the Honda Element uses a timing chain, or a timing belt.

The Element uses a timing chain which is so much better then a timing belt. The life expectancy of the chain is approximated at about double that of the timing belt. With proper care it should last about as long as the engine. This is one of the great benefits of owning the Element.

This depends on the engine and year. The 4 cylinder Elements have a timing chain. The V6 can be a belt, but most of them have timing chains. Your owners manual can be helpful in determining if you have a belt or not.

the 4 cylinder Honda elements share engines with the Honda civic. Both of which have timing chains. This makes the vehicle more reliable and require service intervals that are less frequent.

Honda Elements from 2003 to 2007 came with timing chain instead of a belt. However newer model should also have a chain.

The Honda Element has a timing belt, not a timing chain. For optimal performance and preventative maintenance, the timing belt on a Honda Element should be replaced every 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

You are completely incorrect. The Element has a timing CHAIN, not a belt.  add a comment

The Honda Element has a timing chain. This means the chain doesn't need to be changed every 60,000 miles like you would with a timing belt.

It depends on which engine your element has in it. The 4 cylinder model has a timing chain. The v6 model has a belt.

The Honda Element comes with a timing chain. You can find out for sure by looking at the owners manual at the maintenance schedule. If no belt replacement is listed then you have a chain.

Honda Element uses timing chain. Honda lately uses timing chains instead of belts. Therefore, less maintenance in the timing assembly. No worry for that limited 100,000 mile belt change. Sudden revs is less a worry too.

The Honda Element does have a timing belt. The timing belt should be changed every 100,000 miles or 5 years.

It does NOT have a belt... it has a chain that doesn't require a regular maintenance.  add a comment

The Honda Element has a timing belt. This gives the car accurate shifting and allows you to do less work while driving the vehicle. It is know that the Honda element has a timing belt.

Accurate shifting? Sorry. The color of your garden hose has just as much effect on shifting as a timing belt.  add a comment

The timing belt or chain has nothing to do with the accurate shifting or determine how much work you put into driving. The timing belt makes sure that the piston and valve run in synchronization with each other so they don't slam into each other as the pistons go..........  add a comment

....up and down and the valve open close. Your Transmission is what shifts so smoothly not your timing belt or chain. Your an idiot. Please do everyone a favor and stop typing idiotic comments!!!  add a comment

If stupidity has a scale it is being shown right here as a ten out of ten. Has anyone bothered to consult a manual? Or even bothered to look inside under the hood? Accurate shifting, less work? Are you making this junk up?  add a comment

Actually, all of you are totally wrong. The element camshaft is geared with twin opposing gearboxes that are connected to each CV joint on the front axle. The enables the Element to climb faster in reverse when trying to escape a wild herd of radical muslims.
