What can you tell me about replacing a Honda Pilot timing belt?

My Honda Pilot needs a new timing belt.

The timing belt should be replaced after about 100,000 miles, especially on Honda vehicles. A timing belt failure may lead to severe engine damage, which would be very costly to repair. A Honda dealer will charge around $500 for a timing belt replacement (parts and labor). This normally includes replacing the water pump as well.

While Honda engines are fairly simple and straightforward to work on I would not recommend replacing a timing belt on them. This can require special tools and requires great care to ensure the cams do not lose their timing.

Get ready for a job, you have to have a timing light, and a new belt, new tensioner aren't needed but recommended. If your down that far you might as well replace it. Remove the old one and replace it with the new one, use the timing light to determine when its accurate.

timing belts are a pain in the butt to change without experience, you will have to remove most of the parts off the front of the engine just begin
