Four-wheel and two-wheel drive vehicles do use the same kind of transmission. The only differences would be location and some would even have a transfer case. Four wheel drive vehicles use a little more power than two wheel drive seeing as they are powering all four wheels with the same amount of power and not just two.

No they do not. The center shaft that runs through the center of the two wheel drive transmission is shorter then a 4-wheel drive transmission because there is no transfer case on a 2-wheel drive transmission. It would not be possible.

yes they both use the same transmission, the only difference is the four wheel drive has a "transfer case" which has nothing to do with the transmission. In many cases, you can have a truck with that is both two wheel drive, four wheel drive and all wheel drive, but they all use the same transmission.

For the most part the transmission typically interchange. The main factor is not if it is 2wd or 4wd but whether it is front or rear wheel drive.
