Thinner paper is easier to fold. It is easier to fold and doesn't crinkle or rip too easy. Folding it in shapes makes your table more decorative.

In general, no, it's too thin. If the napkin has a pattern on it that you like, you can always glue it to a thicker piece of paper or cardstock.
