Can you format a CD?

Or are they useless once you've put stuff on them?

If the cd bought is labeled either CD-R or CD+R then it cannot be reused or be reformatted. This means that if there are stuff in it already then the CD becomes useless. However, if the cd is either CD-RW or CD+RW then such disk can still be reused or be reformatted.

Depends. There are different CD types. A normal CD can not be used again. A CD-R (compact disc recordable) disc can only be used once , so they are pretty much useless after you put something on it. A CD-RW disc on the other hand can be formatted and used again , however ,fewer CD players can read them.
