Can newborn eyes see?

Or are all babies blind at birth?

It was an old wives' tale for years that newborns couldn't see. This theory has been proven wrong. Newborns can see but not very far.

Newborn babies can usually see shadows or just light and dark things. They cannot make out color, and can only see things that are ver close to them.

Babies aren't blind at birth. They simply can't focus and see far away. Their eyes aren't fully developed after being in darkness and fluid for all those months. Within a few weeks, babies can see very close objects and within a few months they can see about a foot away.
