Some newborns take to the crib right away, and others do not. Some newborns are not ready to give up the closeness of sleeping near a warm body, or their mother's smell. You can try keeping a thin blanket near the mother's skin for a little while and placing near the baby, ensuring he cannot be suffocated by it.

A better question is why will you not let your newborn sleep in her crib. Try swaddling her and providing her with warmth and security. Newborns can not refuse to sleep in a crib, if she or he is crying when placed in the crib you may be waiting to long to put her to sleep.

Newborns are used to being in the cozy, warm, confines of the uterus. Then suddenly, they are born into a big, cold world.
