Can horses get sunburned?

Pink-skinned horses are all subject to sunburn on their muzzles, and some owners apply sunscreen as needed to minimize the sun damage. Other areas of the body rarely receive enough sun exposure to burn. A sensitive horse might need stabling during the day with night turnout only. Providing access to shade during turnout is also helpful.

Yes, a horse can get sunburned. Any light colored areas are succeptible to sunburn and should be treated with sunscreen or covered, if possible.

Yes, they can. It is quite common in horses that are kept out in a pasture during the day. To keep a horse from getting sunburned, you can use sunblock made for humans, it is safe for them. Also, if you put a long nose fly mask on the horse, the face won;t get burned, Cashel makes great ones!

Yes, they can, especially light-colored horses and those that are albino. You can use sunscreen to protect their sensitive skin.
