Can any brand of sound card go into an HP computer?

How do I keep from getting one that doesn't?

Generally any sound card will work that fits into the motherboard's expansions slots (PCI, ISA, PCI-Express) and has drivers for the operating system you are using (Windows, etc.). A USB sound card is a good alternative to one that goes inside and is easily swappable with other PCs.

As long as the sound card is compatible to your computer it doesn't matter what brand name is used. Quality of sound cards plus options should be considered when decideing. Your personal preferences will help you decide what brand to buy. Today's sound cards offer a host of capibilites.
