Normally, the uterus contracts to put pressure on the blood vessels. It can't do that if the placenta is retained. The bleeding will continue, which increases infection and hemorrhage risk.

It can and will go far further than that! It can and will kill your cat because it will develop peritonitis where the lining becomes highly inflamed from having this foreign body still inside.

You need to get your cat to a vet as quickly as possible. A retained placenta can cause a uterine infection and they can go down hill quickly. They will possibly give her oxytocin to induce contractions so she passes the placenta.

A retained placenta can have many ill-effects on a cat, including uterine infection. A retained placenta that is no longer receiving blood from the circulatory system is essentially a piece of dead flesh, which cannot properly defend itself against infection. This can lead to many complications, so you should see your vet about properly treating the condition.
