Can a downdraft vent and a gas cooktop be used together?

Yes, but this setup is not efficient, especially when using a wok or large stock pot. The downdraft is frequently too far from the front burners to remove steam, smoke or grease, and can sometimes pull burner flames toward the back of the stovetop. Hoods are much more efficient at removing kitchen exhaust.

Yes it is possible to use a downdraft vent and a gas cooktop together. The only problem that way arise is that it has a lack of efficiency. Since the downdraft vent will be too far away from the front burners, you may come across some problems with having a steam/smoke filled kitchen.
