This is relatively new, but not entirely. If you have done any major renovations to your home in order to make it more environmentally friendly, that counts.

This year you can deduct sales tax on new cars and real estate tax. Also the first $2,400 of unemployment compensation received will not be taxed this year. There are increased education credits including computers, books, and other supplies as well as child tax credits. Work expenses, medical expenses, charitable contributions, mileage to physicians, child care expenses remain deductible.
