Yes. Taking Valerian Root supplements (or St. John's Wort or Kava Kava) can cause one to test positive for benzodiasepines, or "benzos," which is a class of sedative hypnotic psychoactive drugs. You should avoid taking Valerian for several months before your drug test.

i have been taking Valerian Root since Febuary and my last 2 UA's have come up positive for benzo...that's the only thing it could be. DONT TAKE IT if you come up positive. We will see what happens at my next UA  add a comment

Valerian root will not cause you to fail a drug test. Benzodiazepines are not present at a level that would cause you to fail. The amount of Valerian you would need to take to register would leave you unconscious. So, if you take a few a day, don't stress, there have been no verifiable reports of a false positive.

captain anonymous here to rescue your anxious heart, Tammy is 100 percent correct, there is a cutoff level to stop false positives from happening, to ensure drug test quality.  add a comment

Valerian root, like some other herbal supplements, is reported to cause false positives on drug tests, specifically for benzodiazepines in the system.

My friend has been taking 4-6 Valerian capsules nightly, 3-5 times a week and has regular UA's. He has never tested positive for benzos or anything else. Maybe it depends on the testing lab, quality of the test, idk, but he has not had a problem taking Valerian Root capsules.

It very well could. In several of the websites I looked at it is reported that Valerian will or might cause a false positive for benzodiazepines.

I failed my ua for benzos today after taking valerian last night. I don't suggest using it if you are on probation or get regularly tested for a job.
