Will medicaid cover braces?

I have to have braces.

No, it will only cover the necessary treatment of your teeth. Braces are cosmetic and medicaid does not cover anything that is cosmetic.

If by braces, you mean the kind for your teeth, then no, Medicaid will not cover them. However, if you're talking about the kind of braces for your legs, then more than likely, these braces will be covered by Medicaid.

They cover them in NJ with a doctors prescription for special needs children and Florida medicaid has just been ordered to do the same.

Medicaid coverages are differnt from state-to-state and your state of residence determines your coverage plan. Check with the Human Services Department where eligiblilty was determined and ask about dental coverage. Also, if you have a private insurance, Medicaid will not pay, if Medicaid covers dental, until after the private pays. Further, some states only hav the dental benefit for children.
