You may be thinking of EMR (Electro Magnetic Radiation) Waves. While your average cell phone does emit these waves the amount is so small that the likelihood it'll have an ill effect on your body is slim. There are other more serious risk factors to consider for cancer, though.

I have never heard in my life that you can get cancer in your leg for putting you blackberry in your pocket. Its just a rumor theres no way.
