A CPU stress test is usually only used to test the max performance of your CPU. Normally you would only need to do this if you are trying to over-clock or have installed some epic cooling system and want to know how much of a performance boost you got.
In order to find that there are any errors in your computer's hardware, you should run a series of stress tests. One of these tests is the one that stresses the CPU.
