How do you test a magneto on a dirt bike?

I need to run some maintenance test on my motorcycle and do not know how to test the magneto on the flywheel.

You need to use a test meter to check the health of the magneto coils. If they fail, they either go short circuit so you will measure no resistance across the leads, or a lead or the coil winding may break. In this case you will measure very large resistance.

I would take out the spark plug, attach the spark plug wire, then turn the engine while watching for spark. If you get spark, then your magneto is good.

", to complete-the-circuit you must make sure the threaded part of the sparkplug is touching a non-painted surface. add a comment
