Singles are stigmatized by the corporate world because they are perceived as having more time to devote to the company. People are pressured to marry because that is the status quo, and married couples typically want to hang out with other married couples. Thus when a person chooses to remain single, he or she is challenging the status quo.

While this has been lessening in the recent past, there is still a stigma attached to being single. Much of it revolves around the suspicion that there is something inherently wrong with you if you can not, or do not want, to attract a mate.
