A light stool can indicate many things mainly either little bile in the stool or an obstruction in the bile duct. Light stool color may also be the side effect of anit-diarheal mediactions. Diseases that can cause light stools include hepatitis and liver cancer. People who eat large amounts of rice also experience light stools.

The color of fecal matter is very determinant on what you eat and how fast it is digested. Most likely a light tan color to feces is because the intestines are pushing it through too quick for all of the bacteria in it to properly break down.

White stool is caused due to lack of bile which may indicate problem in liver, gallbladder, pancreas or intestine such as cysts, tumors, hepatitis, biliary cirrhosis, gall stones, narrowing of bile ducts, pancreatitis and sclerosing cholangitis. The side effects of antibiotics, antacids and antifungal drugs can also cause light colored stool. Eating too much rice can cause pale colored stool.

Sometimes taking in too much water can cause a light stool. Also, an intake of too many vitamins such as A and C can cause this slight condition. Generally it is not an indicator of disease or bad health.

Diets can make the color of stool lighter, specially a diet with high amounts of calcium. Some times light colored stool can indicate a serious issue in your liver function.

Liver dysfunction is one cause of light colored stool. Whenever there is insufficient bile produced, a pale stool results. Dietary reasons or the use of antacids are other possibilities.

Probably just what you ate, unless it is dark black, red, shows blood trace or you have other symptoms, this too will pass....

Your stool may be lighter depending on what you are eating. If it is grayish or almost translucent, you need to contact a doctor immediately because these are signs of liver failure.
