There are a number of reasons that a dog will eat its own feces. It is not unusual but it is an unpleasant habit that needs to be broken. Pick up after dog immediately after she defecates and dispose of it. This will eliminate the problem.

This is normal it just means that something is missing in their diet. What you need to do is add some meat tenderizer to their food and add spinach.

Yes, Some dogs eat there own feces to clean up the evidence, a behavior usually taken on by the low dog on the totem pole as puppies. Also, females out of instinct will eat their own feces and the feces of her puppies to remain hidden from predators.
