Why is my cat lying in his litter box?

As odd as this may seem, it is very normal for a cat to lie in his litter box. They are territorial and he knows that this space is his.

Some cats like the comfort and feel of the litter. If it's hot,and theres no cool place in your living area , they will use it to stay cool or some cats like peace and quiet if theres alot of noise when they nap. It all depends on the cats personality.

Well from every thing that I have read and experienced with my cats it seems they feel safe inside the litter box especially if you have a covered litter box. They seem to like the feeling of the litter.

If the cat is strictly indoors, he may be using the texture of the litter to substitute for grass, gravel, and dirt.
