Yes your cat might have ate something, but usually your cat can also be dehydrated and might need to drink some more water. Another reason why your cat can be constipated is the litter box, for some cats the smell will make the cat hold on it's bowel movements. This should help you!

Often constipation occurs because the cat is not drinking enough water. It is also possible that the cat could have eaten something and it is clogging the intestines.

Your cat might have a hairball or other stomache problem that can be serious if it doesn't correct itself. If this lasts you should take him to the vet.
