It sounds like your starter may be getting heat soaked. This is common on some engines especially one that have modified exhausts. You may want to look into either insulating the starter or installing a heat shield. You could also try coating or wrapping the exhaust to contain some of the heat.

The biggest damaging condition for electric components next to vibration is heat. The starter designed to operate best within a certain heat range. When you exceed this range then things start to function incorrectly. To fix your problem either invest in a starter heat shield or buy some header wrap to cover the exhaust near the starter.

There is no good electrical contact. Chances are the terminal at the starter is too thin for a good contact. That starter needs to be repaired.

Either your starter is on it's way out or it is getting heat soaked. Try insulating it and see if the helps. Either install a shield or wrap the exhaust next to it with exhaust wrap.

sometimes when a starter reaches engine temperature, the inner shaft will drag or turn slowly. this is often an indication that the starter is going out or the bushings in the starter are worn out.
