The most common cause of this problem is a sticky thermostat. Try thumping it right on the temperature adjustment knob, if the motor stops it is the thermostat. You might also check the door gasket to make sure it's sealing all the way around. As an aside, make sure it's not set to Max Cold!

If it's constanly on this is due to the temperature thats set on the refrigerator. You can try adjusting the temeratures to normal temperature, not super cold.

It thinks it needs to cool down because either it is loosing its coolness because of a bad seal, or because it has a bad thermostat which tells it what temperature it is.

The thermal switch could be faulty since it is supposed to switch of at the temperature set. When its too cold its heat mechanism causes the plates to contract and release contacts from electricity supply. Let it be checked by a proffessional.
