Why do people still use checkbooks?

I only use a debit card.

Many small local businesses (plumber, beauty shop) do not accept electronic payments. Some people won't give out card numbers by internet and prefer checks. Paper is a better tax record.

Yes they do. If you have an apartment or paying someone money back that you borrowed or making a really large purchase you should use a check. In case something goes south and you need to go to court, checks are the best paper trail to prove you made payments.

It's mainly because people still want to keep a written account of their banking transactions. It's a good idea to use checkbooks because if a few ATM machines don't work temporarily, you can always write out a check at your bank to get some cash. And some companies may only accept cash or checks as a means of exchange.
