Perhaps people order them because they are not available where they live. Sometimes, mantis' are used in science exhibits but often they are bought by gardeners as they kill and eat pests that attack the plants such as mites and flies. They are harmless when it comes to people and they are very easy to take care of.

Some people keep them as pets. Otherwise they can be used for pest control in your garden. They eat many insects with mites and their eggs being among their favorites.
