Why did my cat stop using the litter box?

The cat mays top using the litter box if you do not change the litter frequently. If it is too dirty they may refuse to use it. Make sure that you scoop it out daily and change it completely at least one per week. This should prevent messes throughout the house.

The litter box may not be as clean as your finicky cat would like or he or she may be expressing disatisfaction with something such as toys or food.

There could be a number of reasons for this and I suggest that the reasoning could be the litter box is not cleaned, moved, the cat has aged and vision is disintegrating, you have changed the type of litter and the cat is not comfortable with it, which I think would be most likely the case.
