A cat could lose hair around it's neck because of a collar rubbing the hair off the neck. Another possibility could be ringworm, which is a fungal condition (not parasitic). Ringworm typically causes hair loss in ring shaped areas. You would need to consult a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment.

More than likely this is due to fleas. Cats will scratch their necks excessivly as the fleas are driving them crazy, and they just won't stop, even as they are losing their hair. Flea collars are an inexpensive way to keep the fleas off of your cat, and will get them relief from the itching.

Are their collars too tight? Do they have signs of any other fur loss? Is the skin inflamed? Call your vet.

The hair loss could be indicative of a number of things. I'd encourage you to take the cats to the vet to check on them.

Cat's that have flea's will dig, and one area that has no exception is their necks. Flea's lay about 10,000 eggs per pregnancy of the female flea, also the cat licking their hair sometimes causes pet hair loss.
