What does it mean when dogs are losing hair?

This could be a result of an infestation of a mite that causes mange, or a reaction to an infestation of fleas.

There are many diseases and conditions which can cause a dog to lose hair.Some maybe considered normal,other indicate serious disease is present.Most conditions are called Acanthosis nigricans,darkening of the skin or it can be adrenal sex hormone responsive dermatosis.Or it can be an allergic reactions following or exposure to antibiotics.

This could be caused by a variety of conditions, including malnutrition. You need to take your dog to see your vet right away!

It could be a skin irritation or just from the weather change they are getting a new coat in. I would watch it closely though.
