Who wrote the Constitution?

It was indeed a joint effort with there being 55 delegates, 39 of whom signed it. Two of the delegates with a more prominent role were Gouverneur Morris of Pennsylvania and James Madison who is referred to as the "Father of the Constitution."

The Constitution was written after much heated debate during the Federal Convention in Philadelphia between September 17, 1787 and March 4, 1789. Representatives from each state came together to write the document and the roster, including the likes of John Adams, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, is a veritable Who's Who of early American history.
