A Brazilian by the name of Paulo Freire wrote the "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" in 1968. Years later, this book became a important topic to many educators and students.

Paulo Friere wrote Pedagogy of the Oppressed, originally in Portuguese. It was eventually translated into English. Friere was interested in how the process of education can either be liberational to students or it can just replicate the same injustices. His metaphor for the education that replicates is "banking" pedagogy where teachers make knowledge deposits in the minds of students.
